On the 10th of July 2012, John R. Near’s book
Widor: A Life beyond the Toccata
was awarded the
John Ogasapian Book Award from the Organ Historical Society
. The Ogasapian Prize is given once a year to “a distinguished work of original scholarship” published in the previous calendar year. The Organ Historical Society, an organization that has received worldwide attention in recent years, “is dedicated to documenting and preserving historic pipe organs and to raising public awareness and appreciation of America's organ heritage.”
