Eastman Studies in Music is a well-established endeavour committed to publishing quality titles in music scholarship. The University of Rochester Press launched the Eastman Studies in Music series in May 1994 with the publication of its first title-a revised edition in hardback and paperback of The Poetic Debussy: A Collection of His Song Texts and Selected Letters, by Margaret G. Cobb.

The University of Rochester Press has published some thirty titles to date. Topics of volumes in print include musicology, broadly defined to include ethnomusicology, music theory, and other specialties.

Explaining Tonality: Schenkerian Theory and Beyond by Matthew Brown
A defense of Schenkerian analysis of tonality in music.

Historical Musicology: Sources, Methods, Interpretations edited by Stephen A. Crist and Roberta Montemorra Marvin
Seventeen studies by noted experts that demonstrate recent approaches toward the creative interpretation of primary sources regarding Renaissance and Baroque music, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Verdi, Debussy, and beyond.

The Substance of Things Heard: Writings about Music by Paul Griffiths
A choice selection of essays, reviews, and interviews providing insights into musical performance, composition in the late 20th century and very early 21st, and the nature of opera.

Musical Encounters at the 1889 Paris World's Fair by Annegret Fauser
An exploration of the ways in which music was used, appropriated, exhibited, listened to, and written about during the six months of the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris.

Letters I Never Mailed: Clues to a Life by Alec Wilder
Presented in a new, annotated edition with introduction and supplementary material by David Demsey, foreword by jazz pianist Marian McPartland, and photographs by Louis Ouzer.
